From: pcelone@nesdis.noaa.gov (Pete Celone) Subject: SOCC Product Improvements Cc: pcelone@nesdis.noaa.gov Between 1:46 and 13:46 GMT on November 24, 1995 (Day 328), data from the GOES-8 sounder were corrupted, making them nearly useless. A failure in the Sensor Processing System at Wallops caused the problem and was undetected for several hours. Usually failures of this sort are caught and corrected either in SOCC or the CDA very quickly (within one or two frames), but sometimes failures slip through undetected for relatively long periods. To prevent these problems from happening in the future, I request help from the entire user community in detecting such failures. If you see bad data from either the Imager or Sounder, GOES 8 or 9, that suggests a failure (i.e., because the problem continues unabated for more than one or two frames), please call the shift supervisor in the Satellite Operations Control Center, at 301-457-5135. There is a shift supervisor on duty 24 hours a day, every day. Also, if you would make the additional effort to notify me on e-mail, at pcelone@nesdis.noaa.gov, I will work to correct the problem as quickly as possible. We appreciate your input. Let's work together to optimize the processing and procedures so we at SOCC can deliver a quality product.
