The ER-2 flies from north (left) to south, the storm moves slowly westward. Positive doppler velocities are awy from the plane, ie downward. A large area aloft carries the hydrometeors up at a speed of over 10 m/s on average and over 20 m/s maximum. This cell was located ~100 km south of the S-POL radar.
